Childers Gateway Motor Inn

Good location for going to the Reptile Park the next morning, which was why we stayed in Childers

✓ Was just an overnight stay so we could get up early (for us!) and take the kids to the Reptile Park. We have stayed overnight before to break up our trips, and I am sure they have upgraded since we last stayed. Either that or we lucked out and got newer rooms!

✗ Staff did not understand rules around Support Dogs. I understand they had a bad experience in the past, with someone claiming their dog was a support animal, and it obviously wasn’t considering the damage it did. So I do get their hesitation. But further research on their part to educate themselves would go a long way. Once they understood that the dog we had was actually registered, and was very well behaved, and never left his stroller when in the room, they were much more accommodating.

✓ When travelling through this region and I need to stop overnight this is my motel of choice. Good clean facility with easy access off the Bruce highway on the southern outskirts of town. It is away from the main shopping area of Childers but easily accessed by private vehicle. Even with proximity to main highway any traffic noise does not present a problem at night for sleeping comfort.

✗ Sometimes difficult to find a vacancy but this could be seasonal.

On the whole a good stay, thank you.

✓ On the whole very good - if I had been travelling in a campervan / RV it would have been brilliant because of the shared kitchen facilities (including fridge / freezer and a serious looking cooker). But, indiviudally ........

✗ I only discovered that I needed to ask at reception for an hairdryer once receiption had closed for the evening. And, whilst there were a couple of really good washing machines availalbe - for money in the slot which I suspect would have been a pain too? - there were no drying facilities ie no washing line - only tumble dryers. And it wasn't as though there was no room - place is situated outside the town on the side of the A1 with plenty of wide open space all around!

Probably the pick of Childers motels and you will experience a warm and helpful service.

✓ The arrival was met with a warm welcome and an easy experience with check in and some good local restaurant advice. My decision to stay in Childers was a last minute option. I had no plan to stay in the area. I checked the site and it appeared that Childers Gateway Motor Inn was one of the better motels. In my view this is probably right as I sighted a few other options and they did not appear to be of a similar standard. Upon arrival, the check in was all in hand and my booking was retrieved with ease. The host was a pleasant fellow and on a wet miserable evening he retained not only a warm welcome but a sense of humour. I asked about the local restaurants and he gave me a run down on what was available and his view of the quality of the service. I made a decision to follow his advice and the restaurant I chose from his recommendations was quite good for a smallish town. The room was more than ample in size. It was reasonably well maintained and very clean. So I could have easily been comfortable on a longer stay of several days. All in all, a good find in Childers.

✗ Only a few minor issues. All of the motels in town sit on the main highway as does most of the town. It is a bit noisy with heavy transport passing throughout the night. The location is at the edge of town and whilst other motels were closer to the centre of town, the quality of those offerings seemed less than ideal. If you don't mind a walk into the centre of town then I am sure you will be fine. Lastly, the TV could be a little bigger and some options for a smart TV system would be a bonus.
