Big busy hotel, but mostly good

✓ I made two separate stays in this hotel, about a week apart, for a total of six nights. Since the two rooms were quite similar, I shall review them both together. I loved the location of Windsor Florida. It was just 50m from the entrance to Catete metro station. Around Catete are many shops and convenience stores mostly serving locals, but I could get basic necessities from them with no difficulty. About 500m away around Largo do Machado metro station, there are several restaurants, again mostly serving locals, but with a translation app, there should be no problem. The area has a visible number of homeless, but so does most of Rio. However, Catete did not feel unsafe while the shops were open and locals were out and about (there were other parts of Rio where even in daylight, it felt dicey). Check-in was smooth and there were elevators to rooms. The beds were comfortable and lighting was good. Wifi in the rooms was good, but strangely weak to absent in the breakfast room on the ground floor. There were enough power points, mostly around the desk. The desks in both rooms were smaller than satisfactory. The rooms had enough space so it was a pity that a deeper (i.e. more distance between front edge and wall) desk was not provided. In both rooms, lighting over the desks was good. Both rooms had mini-refrigerator and mini-safe. There was no kettle. I saw no issues with cleanliness or housekeeping. No complimentary drinking water supplied. Bathroom fixtures were in good working order (except drainage). Water pressure was good and hot water came through easily. The breakfast buffet was quite a good spread, but had limited hot dishes. However, because it is a huge hotel, breakfast always felt crowded and rushed.

✗ There were two operational issues with the second room that I had. These need to be fixed. The drainage from the wash basin was choked and housekeeping either didn't notice or didn't attend to it (if they had even run the tap to clean the basin, they should have noticed it). The second issue was less serious: the airconditioner made a steady noise, not loud but would annoy anyone who is a light sleeper. There was nothing defective in the first room. One thing that may be worth mentioning: Windsor Florida is a huge hotel. The lobby is always busy; there tends to be a queue for check in and check out. Breakfast is a mass-feeding affair. There were occasions when the elevator, when it came, was already full and one had to wait for another. Some people tolerate such situations better than others.

Outstanding staff, my next trip to Rio I will be back to Windsor Florida.

✓ The breakfast was pretty decent, and the staff was very nice and helpful.

✗ The door wasn't insulated very well, and my room was close to the elevators, so it was a bit annoying to hear all the noise as people were coming and going, especially at night.

✓ The location is excellent. The hotel has a nice rooftop terrace with great views. It also has a pool and gym.

✗ The gym is a bit small, but definitely enough for a few days stay. I was a bit disappointed that the hotel did not offer airport pickups/prebooked taxis from the airport. I also missed a kettle in the room.

Great location would come back again.

✓ Centrally located in Catete/Flamengo. With a subway station right across the street. Staff also spoke English, so that helped. The room was sizeable and had enough space. A small bar with a bartender who can make a good caipirinha. There was some good breakfast options and lots of juice.

✗ I was there for a work conference and there were some catering issues that weren't just about the hotel.
