The Old Phuket - Karon Beach Resort - SHA Plus

Old and new. Traditional and modern. A beautiful place to relax and be made to feel at home.

✓ Fantastic location. Very short wander to the beach. Markets are close. Karon is a beautiful part of Phuket and ‘the old’ showcases all its best bits. The street to the beach is lined with friendly restaurants and massage parlours. Wandering around the grounds and looking up at the mountains. Seeing big Buddha while floating in the sino wing pool. My favourite resort. I will keep returning.

✗ Didn't like the Sino wing - they moved our room as it smelt of cigarettes - very accommodating, new room much better. Breakfast was ok -

✓ Beautiful, clean and traditional looking. Great location. Well kept grounds. Lovely rooms, we really liked the outdoor showers too. We felt really safe and all staff were charming and helpful

✗ in general the place is very run down this is not 4 star externally the buildings are very tired and shabby lots of tiles missing from pool .I was very disgruntled as one of reasons for booking this hotel said in description fitness suite this was a joke 1 running machine 2 mats and a table tennis table this is fraud .Breakfast was poor the yogurts were not kept cool all food uncovered flies everywhere not much choice of fruit this was an expensive stay for poor standard

Overall I like this hotel and will not mind to stay again if I visit Phuket again.

✓ Breakfast was good, room is spacious, the pool is huge, facilities are more than enough, even got a library.

✗ The hotel is huge meaning there is a lot of walking to reach the room. The beach is not exactly by the side of the hotel, it is near the back door, across the road. The thing i dislike the most is the need to press the button to open a gate when I drive back to hotel at night, the gate did not serve any purpose.

Average for the price

✓ Room was spacious with comfortable bed. Location is the key selling point

✗ 1) Pool cleaning and maintainence poor with pool tiles falling off, as I was in a pool access room in the corner, lots of leaf litter floating in the pool not cleaned for the 4 days despite asking for it to be cleared 2) Pool access room access was to a long lap pool but not the full pool without climbing a wall which has no steps so you can’t access the pool bar without walking all the way round.

✓ location, excellent concierge / bell boys. Large rooms

✗ needs a little attention to keep it at a 4 star- the maintainence upkeep, attention to detail in housekeeping such as removing bathroom bins daily and fixing boards on swimming pool deck. Reception were strict on policy and not friendly or flexible.
