✓ Location was exceptional. Concierge service was exceptional.
✗ Room size a wee bit small. Need better space for luggage.
✓ I asked for a fan and housekeeping brought it very quickly. The bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet. The service in the bar was good.
✗ I waited till 3 pm to go to my room and my luggage was stowed by the concierge until then. Reception told me that my bag was already in my room when they gave me my room key but when I got to the room, there was no bag. I went back downstairs and the porters had lots of bags that they were getting ready to take to the rooms. Mine was not amongst them. They found my bag, back in the storage room, so I would have had to wait ages for it. The bag management seemed utterly chaotic.
✓ Beautiful old building, spa and restaurant staff lovely.
✗ The bed wasn’t what I would call 5star for comfort. Needed new mattress didn’t sleep well
✓ Beautiful room, comfy beds. Loved the toiletries although would of liked minis to take away. Spa was amazing, loved the treatments and staff. Fabulous meal in the restaurant and breakfast was great too. Most of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. Lovely way to spend my 60th birthday.
✗ Only 1 person kind of spoiled my birthday night. It was our 2nd night and we'd been in the bar for drinks pre going out to dinner. We thought it would be put on our bill as it was booked and credit card left on arrival so we went out for our meal. On return as I was walking to the bar for next booking I was stopped mid walk in the middle of the restaurant by a woman saying we hadn't paid for our drinks earlier, I explained that we thought they'd be put on to our bill. The restaurant was busy and I didn't appreciate being stopped where people could hear the conversation, very embarrassing. If she'd waited until we sat down in the bar it would of been OK. Instead of staying in the bar to finish up my birthday I was upset and just took our drinks to our room instead. It's a shame that was my final memory of my 60th birthday.
✓ I really appreciated the Scottish men on the door of the hotel, and the men who were concierges. I felt cared for and safe. They were very organised and watchful, and thoughtful, and watched for guests entering, arriving and leaving the hotel at all times.
✗ A woman on the reception desk, who when I asked the name of the porter , couldn't tell me as she quote "couldn't tell the Scottish men apart." She then laughed. I didn't find it amusing, and considered it racist.
✓ Good location, very helpful staff , nothing was too much trouble.
✗ Breakfast was a little disappointing. Room was lovely but a fresh pot of tea at the table would have been nice rather than being served from a flask by the waiter. Only pastries rather than toast as well. Omelette wasn’t great.
✓ gorgeous, beautiful, extremely helpful and friendly staff. airport bus line and tram right outside - lots of places to eat for all budgets, and beautiful view of the castle.
✗ nothing. everything was fine.
✓ All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Room very clean and comfortable.
✗ There was nothing I didn’t like, however we felt that the hotel looked ‘tired’! Carpets looked worn out, paint chipped on doors and walls etc but there wasn’t anything that would stop me staying there again. The staff more than made up for the ‘tired’ look
