Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards in the heart of the Chianti region, Castello di Volpaia offers rustic rooms and a apartment with a kitchen and free Wi-Fi. Located in the medieval hamlet Volpaia, it features an outdoor pool.

✓ The apartment was perfect for 2 couples and we also had our son and his girlfriend stay for a couple of nights too. The views from the private garden/bbq area were probably the best in the village. We stayed for a week and felt very welcome during our stay. The staff were always very eager to help and provide anything we requested - eg an extra baking tray, extra pillow. The apartment is huge and can very comfortably accomodate 6 people.
✗ The beds are very firm - but perhaps that’s an Italian custom. It is not airconditioned - we only had 2 out of the 7 nights where it was very hot. Otherwise there was usually a lovely breeze through the screened windows and there are small pedestal fans provided in each room.
✓ It is hard to think of a more beautiful spot - both the hilltop buildings themselves and the location - stunning countryside with beautiful views from our bedroom window. Great choice of restaurants and a lovely wine/pizza bar. Lots of places to sit and relax. The estate wine, both red and white, is good.
✗ The air conditioning in our room was very noisy and ineffective - but they were doing some work to that the day we left. The rooms are simple but comfortable.
✓ Everything
✗ Non
✓ Excellent
✓ Amazing landscape, comfortable room, delicious food and wonderful staff
✓ The breakfast set up is gorgeous, there was a lovely Italian lady who made us eggs and coffee.
✓ Most of the rooms and facilities were ok, stuff was friendly and breakfast was quite good;
✗ The main problem is - this is not a living village anymore, it is a tourist complex and as such there is nowhere to go after 9.30 pm in the evening; unless you are prepared to use your car to drive to the closest village, such as Radda, you are forced to use the two restaurants and the one cafe / bar in the square , yet all three are shutting down at 9.30pm. Too early to go to bed, yet too late to drive for a good 15 minutes to the next village.
✓ Castello di Volpaia is a fabulous and impressive winery and medieval village. Rich in history! the scenery is impressive. the staff is kind and helpful. the room are spacious, clean with a fantastic view.
