Great location, charming property, incredible hospitality

✓ We initially booked Iriria based on location without much care for reviews or design- my girlfriend, friend, and i were stopping in San Jose for a single night before departing to the Oso Penninsula, and we were determined to make the most of it in trendy Barrio Escalante. There are very few hotels in the neighborhood, Iriria looked lovely in the photos and seemed a pleasant walk from bars and restaurants. Our expectations were low... and boy, were we wrong! I cannot recommend this property enough- read on for details. From the (very early) moment we arrived until many days after our check out, the team at Iriria blew our minds with their incredible hospitality and warmth. We landed in San Jose and headed to the hotel early in the morning after a long flight, knowing our rooms wouldn't be ready but we had nothing else to do... upon our haggard arrival, the kindly whisked our bags away before settling us down for a delicious local breakfast in the lobby. After several strong cups of coffee, we could check in early and rest. It was great! The building was charming, with traditional Spanish architecture and fabulous tiled floors. The rooms feel like a bed and breakfast with lots of homey touches- definitely no corporate hotel vibes here. Loved the antique wooden staircase and the hotel cats, too. The incredible thing, though, was after check out: the hotel was willing to store our bags for FIVE DAYS while we spent time in the jungle. We had a ton of luggage, boxes, gifts, etc as San Jose was our first stop on a month-long journey- they didn't mind. It was a huge help and made the rest of our time in Costa Rica a breeze. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Iriria! We will see you next time, hopefully with fewer suitcases and more nights booked. :)
