Hostal Oasis The Traveler

Fine facilities, bad vibe for backpackers.

✓ The physical space was nice, the rooms in cabins were pretty good, and it was well staffed. Right next to the river.

✗ The hostal was full of local families, bad for backpackers who want to meet others. I had dinner there my first night and the food was some of the worst I had in Guatemala. They played a random assortment of Latin music in the main common / dining area til after 10 loud enough to blow out the speakers, which made some sense the first night when people were dancing but not at all the second night when the dance floor was empty. WiFi was only available there with the music.

Fabulous

✓ Very nice outside area, 2 pools at the river. 15 minutes walk to center of Lanquín to get a shuttle to Semuc Champey.

✗ Don't order the veggie salad. I never ate something more sad.

Pleasant

✓ Location is 15 minute walk into the centre of Lanquin. Dorms don’t have fans but it was just about ok to sleep (August).

✗ No lockers in the dorm rooms. No kitchen, restaurant food is ok slightly expensive as expected, you don’t have a choice but to eat there or walk into town or another equally priced Hostel nearby. There are zero lights leading up to the property so the road is pitch black if you come back late at night.

Lovely, relaxing site, needs a few room improvements

✓ Remote but they arrange free pick up from the shuttle bus, lovely pools, river view, huts very aesthetic, cheap food in restaurant, friendly staff who carried our bags

✗ Flying ant swam was able to get in our room due to a panel from the window being missing. We couldn’t open our door once it was locked from the outside and a staff member nearly broke it down to open it for us. Both things we were told would be fixed the next day but unfortunately weren’t. In fairness as we were just there for 2 nights we didn’t make a fuss so perhaps was easily forgotten about.

✓ amazing staff, awesome place just by the river also had a pool :D

✗ every other hostel Ive been to there has been chargers by the beds in a dorm and this place only have to charging points by the door in a 6 bed dorm

A lakefront lodge for the price of a hostel

✓ Beautiful cabanas and a restaurant with a breathtaking river view.

✗ I would've liked to have a power outlet closer to my bed, also I had to stay in the restaurant for the wi-fi.

Exceptional

✓ The location of this hostel is great. It is down a dirt road (and therefore very peaceful) and right on the river. Meals were fairly simple, but all very tasty. The staff was friendly and the rooms were super clean.

✓ Amazing location beside the river, staff are very helpful, very clean and well maintained.

✗ Both the pools were empty and they had a motor on to fill up one of the pools for 2 days in a roll (very noisy) so I could not enjoy the “peace” environment.
